Hi Folks,
After some advice please if anyone can assist.
When we bought the Sag in 29005 we purchased a Pioneer AVIC X1R Sat Nav/MP3/Cd etc.
Just recently though we have been led astray on more then one occasion (usually leading a bunch of TVRs ) and when we went to Chatsworth earlier this year our dear sat nav lady Sonia obviously had no idea that Derbyshire even existed
I have made enquiries about a new disc on Pioneer's website and it appears that it will be a 2008 version CNDV 80MT at the amazing price of £330.00
Bearing in mind a TomTom or the like can be purchased a lot more cheaply, I was wondering if anyone has an AVIC X1R and has found either an alternative disc that works with the unit or a supplier that does a bona fide update at a cheaper price.
Any assistance appreciated.
Thanks
YP

ebay ...
120456611690
£10
Thanks but tried that....120456611690
£10
Thought that as you could buy a sat nav now for £200 Pioneer's disc would have come down in price by loads!! Wrong!
3 for £30, all pirated and the listing was removed after I had paid by Pay Pal.
First crap deal since I started buying from eBay 3 years ago
Should have known...
I have have it on good authority (the Pioneer site) that if you put a disc in that isn't compatible with the system that you cannot then use the original and have to have the set rebooted by a Pioneer authorised agent.
So I'm not taking the chance.

Hmms, I could be wrong, but that sounds like scaremongering by pioneer. What if one of their own discs had data damage, would the AVIC screw itself up thinking it was a hooky copy ? So I'm not taking the chance.

I bought an ebay special European wide disk for the RNS-E in my Audi, and had no problems. But like you mentioned, ebay pulled the seller sometime later.YP
Shirley there are other AVIC users out there who've had a similar dilemma ?

Unless Derbyshire was recently created, if it didn't exist on the 2005 map, who is to say it will be on the newer 2008 map update?.
Is Pioneer offering you a money back guarantee if there is still no Derbyshire on the 2008 update or will they be offering you the new 2010 map for even more money?.
Just making the point that newer map data may not solve your satnav issues.

Fed up, this has all gone horrid
I took a gamble after speaking with a few people and bought a 2ND hand AVIC-X1R unit off eBay!
Up till now I have had no problems with EBay, The seller was honest saying that the unit had been working but He suspected it needed a new ribbon. I have not installed this in the car but so far the costings are beginning to get out of hand.
Unit purchase price .........£122.00
Local radio centre inspection £22.50 (they confirmed it did not work)
Pioneer repair center .......£193.29 (estimate) The laser pick up also requires replacement
So running total so far .....£337.79
I have decided not to bother with the repair as the cost is not worth it, having now also found out how much pioneer rip you off for the new map discs.
I guess I will put this down to experience, but thought I would share the lesson with you guys so you don't end up making the same mistake

for what its worth if you get a copied disk and its been done properly you will have no problems with it. i know people who have this.
so if you find any on ebay go for it. email the seller quickly as EBAY are being forced to take it off.
I do think Pioneer take the piss though on their own disks. at least on the Avic X1r you have disks and can get copies
i have a HDIIBT and the only options for maps on that is via pioneer as its on a hard disk and protected by serial number
if you have any other questions let me know

Yes I had a set of CNDV-60MT that where a bit worse for wear, thus the head-unit having problems reading themgot in touch with pioneer UK on 0870 600 1539 / 01753 789789 and they said that they would exchange them like for like
for a new set.
I.E you must have a full set of 3 old genuine (cndv-60m in my case) discs

This page contains information about installing the latest Pioneer GPS driver downloads using the Pioneer Driver Update Tool.
Pioneer GPS drivers are tiny programs that enable your GPS hardware to communicate with your operating system software. Maintaining updated Pioneer GPS software prevents crashes and maximizes hardware and system performance. Using outdated or corrupt Pioneer GPS drivers can cause system errors, crashes, and cause your computer or hardware to fail. Furthermore, installing the wrong Pioneer drivers can make these problems even worse.
Recommendation: If you are inexperienced with updating Pioneer device drivers manually, we highly recommend downloading the Pioneer GPS Driver Utility. This tool will download and update the correct Pioneer GPS driver versions automatically, protecting you against installing the wrong GPS drivers.
